It is proposed to amend Article VII, Section 7.14 of the Shelby County Law Enforcement Rules and Regulations (January 2026), adding clarifying language to the existing Rule.

The proposed changes reads as follows:

Nothing contained in these rules shall restrict the right of the Sheriff, appointing authority, and/or governing body, to enter into contractual agreements with individuals, companies, or other entities, to provide Seasonal, Part-Time, or Temporary services necessary for the efficient operation of the agency, provided that those performing such services remain at all times in a Seasonal, Part-Time, or Temporary status. 

No person working under such temporary employment agreement shall be subject to the rules and regulations of the Board, and no such person shall be granted any status, right or privilege related to the provisions of the Act or these Rules, as a result of such contractual agreement. The appointment, supervision, discipline, or separation shall remain exclusively within the Sheriff, appointing authority, and/or governing body.
