It is proposed to amend Article VII, Section 7.05(b) of the Shelby County Law Enforcement Rules and Regulations (November 2017), amending language to clarify test exemption status for candidates holding APOST certification.

The proposed changes for Deputy Sheriff candidates reads as follows:

Candidates who currently hold APOST Law Enforcement certification or individuals who are active or former law enforcement officers may qualify to apply for the position of Deputy Sheriff without having to take an initial test. Exemption status should be confirmed with the Shelby County Law Enforcement Personnel Board.

The proposed changes for Jail Deputy candidates reads as follows:

Candidates who currently hold an APOST Corrections certification OR an APOST Law Enforcement certificationor individuals who are active or former law enforcement officers, may qualify to apply for the position of Jail Deputy without having to take an initial test. Exemption status should be confirmed with the Shelby County Law Enforcement Personnel Board.”
