DESCRIPTION:The Shelby County Law Enforcement Personnel Board will hold a public hearing on \nTuesday\, December 5\, 2023 \nat \n4:00 p.m. \nat the \nSheriff’s Office Training Center \n543 McDow Road Columbiana\, AL 35051 \n  \nIt is proposed to amend Section 7.05 (a) of the current Rules and Regulations that relate to promotional testing for eligible employees. The proposed amendment reads: \nSection 7.05 Examinations \n(a) Types of Examinations \nPROMOTIONAL. Examinations in which competition is limited to present employees. Except as provided elsewhere in the Rules\, such examinations shall customarily be restricted to employees serving in a lower\, related classification with regular status\, and possessing the following levels of experience and education: \nFor promotional examinations for the classification of Sergeant Deputy Sheriff\, employees must hold an Associate Degree of junior class status from an accredited college or university. Prior to testing\, the employee must also have four (4) years’ experience as a full time\, certified sworn law enforcement officer\, three (3) of which are with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. \nFor promotional examinations for the classifications of Lieutenant Deputy Sheriff\, employees must hold a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university. Prior to testing\, the employee must be a Sergeant Deputy Sheriff for a period of two (2) years\, have six (6) years’ experience as a full time\, certified sworn law enforcement officer\, four (4) of which are with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. \nFor promotional examinations for the4 classifications of Captain Deputy Sheriff\, employees must hold a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university. Prior to testing\, the employee must be a Lieutenant Deputy Sheriff for a period of two (2) years’\, have eight (8) year’s experience as a full time\, certified sworn law enforcement officer\, seven (7) of which are with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. \nFor promotional examinations for the classification of Jail Deputy Sergeant\, the employee must have four (4) ear’s experience as a full time\, certified sworn law enforcement officer or Jail Deputy\, three (3) of which are with the Sheriff’s County Sheriff’s Office. \nFor promotional examinations for the classification of Jail Deputy Lieutenant\, employees must hold a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university. Prior to testing\, the employee must also be a Jail Deputy Sergeant or Sergeant Deputy Sheriff for a period of at least two (2) years\, have six (6) years’ experience as a full time\, certified sworn law enforcement officer or a Jail Deputy\, four (4) of which are with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. \nPromotional examinations and/or transfers within the job classifications not listed under 7.05(a) require no prior experience in their current job classifications or time in service.
